Two Years of Mezzo Allies — And We’re Just Getting Started
“I told the school counselor. She told my parents. They were my traffickers.”
“I went to the ER for a rape exam. The doctor asked if I was sure it wasn’t just a bad date.”
“I went to the police. They asked why I stayed.”
These are not rare stories. These are common stories. And two years ago, Mezzo Allies was born out of a painful and powerful truth: for survivors of family-controlled human trafficking, the world of “help” is not always safe.
We launched this work because systems weren’t listening—because survivors like us were falling through the cracks. And because no one else was building the kind of safety net that this population so urgently needs.
July marks our 2-year anniversary.
Two years of survivor-led, grassroots advocacy.
Two years of refusing to stay silent.
Two years of building something from the ground up—without the luxury of major institutional funding.
We are proud. And we are determined..
But here's the hard truth: the need for this work is massive, but funding is a daily struggle.
Grassroots means grit—but it also means grind.
We are a small but mighty team. We've trained thousands of professionals. Consulted on investigations. Partnered with survivors in over 20 states. Spoken at national conferences. Helped influence policy. And held space for hundreds of survivors who were failed by the systems meant to protect them.
We are not lacking in impact. We are lacking in visibility and resources.
Most people still don’t know that family-controlled trafficking even exists, let alone how to identify it or respond.
That’s what we’re up against: an epidemic hidden behind closed doors and picture-perfect family photos.
This is why we keep going.
Because when survivors reach out, they say:
“This is the first time someone understood.”
“I thought I was the only one.”
“I tried to get help before. No one believed me.”
We exist for them.
But we depend on you.
Join us this July in the Mezzo Allies Walkathon.
In honor of our 2-year anniversary, we’re inviting you to walk with us.
Literally.
The Mezzo Allies Walkathon is happening now through July 31st. It’s a virtual, peer-to-peer fundraiser that allows people everywhere to raise awareness and funds for this life-saving work.
Walk in honor of a survivor you know.
Walk to make sure the next survivor doesn’t walk this road alone.
Walk because family-controlled trafficking is real—and still widely unrecognized.
Every step you take helps us say YES to the next person who reaches out.
Here's how you can be part of it:
